ALCUDIA - SANT JAUME 2014

Friday, 18 July:
21.00: Opening address for the fiestas by the president of the Bay of Alcúdia Restaurants Association, Sebastià Cifre Serra. Sant Jaume church.
22.00: Auryn in concert. Spanish boy band at the bullring. Tickets, 20 euros (in advance) available from the auditorium; 22 euros on the night.

Saturday, 19 July:

The Fourth "We are citizens of Pollentia"
10.00: "Ludus pollentius". Play games like the Romans did. For children aged 6 to 10. Applications from 14 to 18 July at Can Torró library, telephone 971 547 311.
18.00-20.00: "Parvus Ludus", disco light. Music, surprises, games and gladiators for children to 16 years of age. On the Passeig de Pere Ventayol.  From 19.00, Roman hairstyles with the participation of local hairdressers. Passeig de la Mare de Déu de la Victoria.
23.00: Festa Capitolina in honour of the gods, Jupiter, Juno and Minerva. In the Pollentia ruins themselves. With music from the 1980s and 1990s then music for a younger audience. DJs Kike Space and Domeck.

(There will be special "Pollentia menus" at various restaurants to coincide with this event.)

Regular programme for the day:
10.00-18.00: Skateboarding championship for under-16s and over-16s. At the skatepark in the parking area by the municipal swimming pool.
10.00: Beach football tournament on the sports beach in Ciudad Blanca, Puerto Alcúdia. Applications by 16 July - mobiles: 695 551 156, 630 702 748 or 652 526 541 or email: mesqueesport@gmail.com
16.00: Chess tournament at the Fundació Torrens. Applications by 18 July by phoning 971 545 289 or 674 250 898 between 21.00 and 23.00. Entrance five euros, but free for local players.
20.00: Photography exhibition "marine postcards" by Sebastià Torrens. At Can Fondo.

Sunday, 20 July:
16.30: Pigeon shoot. At Cap Gros.
20.00: Cinema. "Las Aventuras de Peabody y Sherman". Five euros at the auditorium.
22.00: Concert with the group 9Son, Cuban and African rhythms plus salsa, funk and the essence of Catalan rumba. Passeig de la Mare de Déu de la Victoria.

Monday, 21 July:
19.00: Open doors at the Pollentia archaeological zone.

Tuesday, 22 July:
18.00: Children's party. Foam, water castles etc. and the group Mallorca Festa. Jaume II park.
19.00: Opening of exhibition of photography by students of the open university. Can Torró library.
20.30: Supper for senior citizens. Dance and music by Los Bennys Shadows and Duo Boleros. Passeig de la Mare de Déu de la Victoria.
21.00: Theatrical work "Una pluja irlandesa" (an Irish rain) with musical accompaniment (accordion). Limited numbers, apply by email, unapluja@gmail.com. Can Torró library.

Wednesday, 23 July:
19.30: Martial arts demonstration. Passeig de Pere Ventayol.
22.30: Open-air theatre, El Somni Produccions present "Mamaaà!". Bullring.

Thursday, 24 July:
19.30: Exhibition of sports gymnastics. Passeig de Pere Ventayol.
20.00: Opening of painting exhibition, "Natural stories" by Toni Sastre. Auditorium.
22.30: Music and party with the groups Baix n' Nicotina, Torrofort, Val Nou. Plaça de Carles V.

Friday, 25 July (Sant Jaume):
11:00: Festival of martial arts. Sports hall by the horse roundabout.
11.30: Procession with the Alcúdia band of music.
12.00: Festive celebration of Sant Jaume at the Sant Jaume parish church.
13.15: Traditional refreshments at the town hall.
18.30: Bullfight.
20.30: Procession from the bullring to the Plaça Constitució with La Xaranga Pinyol Vermell.
22.30: Concert by the Alcúdia band of music. Plaça Constitució.
24.00: Fireworks display. Plaça de Carles V.

Saturday, 26 July:
10.00: Beach volleyball tournament at the sports beach, Ciudad Blanca. Applications 629 648 114.
19.00: Three-a-side basketball tournament. Juniors and seniors. Applications via www.dakotaalcudia.com.
22.15: Folk dance. Ball de bot with Sarau Alcudienc and Es Rebost (Mahon, Menorca). Plaça de Carles V.

(Note: the locations Passeig de la Mare de Déu de la Victoria, Passeig de Pere Ventayol and Plaça de Carles V are all what would commonly be referred to as the market square.)
