ALCUDIA JAZZ FESTIVAL 2014

The Alcúdia Jazz Festival (more a season spread over four weeks) starts on Saturday, 30 August with a free concert on the Paseo Marítimo at 22.00. The other concerts take place at the Auditorium in the town and attract different prices as noted on the poster ("preu").

ALCUDIA TOURIST DAY 2014

Thursday, 28 August:
09.30-14.00: Beach volleyball and football tournaments plus Zumba, Aquagym, children's games and music on the sports beach at Ciudad Blanca (top of the Bellevue Mile).
19.00-Midnight: Market, mini-disco for kids and musical shows on the Paseo Marítimo.

Wednesday, 27 August:
10.30: Painting of jars (open to all children of the town accompanied by one adult). C. Constitució.
22.00: Folk dance with the school of ball de bot and Aires Vileros. Plaça de la Vila.

Thursday, 28 August:
20.30: Fashion parade. Plaça de la Vila.

Friday, 29 August:
22.00: Pregón oration for the fiestas by Margalida Aguiló Roca, followed by La Beata declaring the fiestas open and then performance by the group Tiu. In front of the town hall.

Saturday, 30 August:

07.00: Dog show contest. Gathering at Bar Can Pep.
15.00: The Haymaking Festival. Gathering in the Plaça de la Vila and moving on to s'Hort d'en Degollat, accompanied by the pipers and whistlers of the town. "Sopas", price two euros - bring your own cutlery and plates. Followed in the Plaça de la Vila by folk dance and then music from local DJs and finally farmers' party at the Es Colomer pub.
21.00: Supper for the local association for the elderly followed by live music. Plaça de la Vila.

Sunday, 31 August:
21.00: Performance by the Santa Margalida choir plus students from the Santa Margalida school of music. Followed by winetasting courtesy of the bodega Galmés i Ribot. At the auditorium.

Monday, 1 September:
17.00: Aqua games for children with castles, pools and foam. Plaça de la Vila.
21.30: Trivial Pursuit. Plaça de la Vila.

Tuesday, 2 September:
20.00: Tribute to photographer Miquel Estelrich; photos of the La Beaa fiesta. Casal de Cultura.
20.30: Projection of 3D models of historic sites and buildings in Santa Margalida. Casal de Cultura.
21.00: Evening of music, poetry and wine (tasting by Bodegues Es Pujol de Maria). Performance by The Soul Diggers (soul, blues, rock). Prices: 10 euros for wine and supper, 6 euros wine only. On the auditorium terrace.
21.30: Treasure hunt. Plaça de l'Església.

Wednesday, 3 September:
19.00: Parade and competition for the best t-shirts for La Beata. Auditorium.
21.30: Spinning indoor walking class. Plaça de la Vila.
22.00: Table tennis tournament. Plaça de la Vila.

Thursday, 4 September:
10.30: Snack and storytelling. Joan Mascaró i Fornes library.
18.00: Children's chess tournament. Bar Arachu.
20.00: Paddle tournament. Football stadium.
20.30: Opening of an exhibition by painter Paquita Isern. Rectoria large room.
21.30: Playback competition (Plaça de la Vila), followed by the Thursday party at Es Colomer pub with DJs Angels des Colomer and Tous.

Friday, 5 September:
18.00: Mobylette Party. Carretera Artà.
18.30: Exhibition of pendant jewellery. Town hall.
19.00: Children's entertainment with Cucorba. Plaça de la Vila.
20:00: Ringing of bells announcing the fiestas. Balconies and windows of the town are dressed, the town's "standard" and the La Beata flag are displayed.
22.00: Demons' fire-run from the church to Avda. Pouàs.
23.30: Pop-rock party with The Oceans, Leitmotiv, Els Amics de les Arts. Plaça de la Vila.
23.55: Party at Es Colomer. DJs inside and outside.

Saturday, 6 September:
09.00: Cycle race. From s'Abeurador.
18.00: Football tournament at the football stadium.
19.30: The offering of flowers with pipers and whistlers and the Santa Margalida and Vall d'Ebo bands of music band and recorders.
20.30: Mass at the parish church followed by procession with the image of Santa Catalina Tomàs with accompaniment of the pipers and whistlers.
21.30: Supper with representatives of twin towns. C. Hostal.
22.30: Party with the "orchestras" Duo Cabana and Qrquestra Calypso, the groups Val 9 and 4L and the DJs Puça and Butxe. Plaça de la Vila. Then the party which translates as the "scalded cat fears cold water" through to dawn, featuring procession and band of music and the "standards" of the scalded cat.

Sunday, 7 September:

08.00: The band of music from Vall d'Ebo passes through the streets to wake the people up.
09.30: Tribute to Biel, the Grand Demon. Plaça d'en Ramon i d'en Pancho.
10:00: Departure of the demons and bell-ringing to wake up those who might still be sleeping.
11:00: Solemn mass plus the Santa Margalida choir, ball de bot and pipers and whistlers.
17:30: Parade of floats from the church.
19:00: Street procession by bands of music and pipers.
21:00: The La Beata procession.
24:00: Party for La Beata night with Orquesta Mar Blau and Duo Pachá. Plaça de la Vila.

CALA SAN VICENTE FIESTAS 2014

Friday, 15 August:
17.00: Children's swim disco. Foam party, slide and aquatic castle. Swimwear essential!. At Cala Molins.
20.30: Procession through the streets by the giants and big heads of Esbart de Sant Jordi, accompanied by the pipers Xeremiers Orats. From the Cala Molins.
21.00: "Trempó & Jazz", performances by the Pere Dalmau Jazz Trio and Gehache from 21.30. Price is five euros for the trempó (Mallorcan salad plus bread, wine, water, melon and ice-cream). Tickets in advance from bars and other businesses in Cala San Vicente. Takes place along the C. Temporal.

Saturday, 16 August:
18.00: Children's games. Includes a cake-making contest and snacks for all. Plaça dels Pins.
20.00: Zumba exhibition for all ages. Cala Molins.
22.30: Party with performances by Krista and Band and Lorenzo Santa Maria. Cala Molins.

Sunday, 17 August:
20.00: Farmers' folk dance with the group and school of Aires de la Cala and music by the Xeremiers Orats pipers. Cala Molins.
22.00: Havaneres songs (Cuban sea songs/shanties) with Ben Trempats. Cala Molins.
23.30: Firework display. At Maressar (or Punta sa Torre) between the Cala Clara and Cala Molins.
